<p>A construction worker was killed and two others sustained minor injuries when a compound wall of a plot collapsed on them at Lakshmanmurthy Nagar here on Friday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The victim is identified as Venkataswamy, 60, from Madanapalli, Andhra Pradesh. His family had come to the City a fortnight ago in search of a job and he got the job with a civil contractor. <br /><br />Following the residents’ memorandum submitted to a local MLA, the Palike had taken up the asphaltation of Gandhiji Road and awarded the project to a civil contractor. Venkataswamy was among the four workers deployed by the contractor to clean the drains on either side of the road.<br /><br />The dilapidated compound wall of a plot adjacent to the drain collapsed when the four were busy cleaning the drain. <br /><br />Shekhar, a fish vendor near the site, said he heard some people warning the workers that the wall was unstable and may collapse on them. <br /><br />“I saw two men cleaning the drain. When the wall collapsed, the younger managed to jump out of the gutter, but the aged man could not,” he said.<br /><br />Venkataswamy was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead. Ramamurthy Nagar police have registered a case.</p>
