Presidency College doesn’t treat a welcome to its freshers lightly — not only is there an orientation ceremony, a week’s worth of activities to initiate the freshers is also organised in August. The freshers themselves are a smiling bunch, although there are the usual nervous ones as well, each one waiting to embrace the college and all that it has to offer.

For most, the friendly ambience in the campus makes it less stressful than they anticipated. They all agree that they can’t wait to try out the extracurricular activities they have to choose from.

“I did my PUC from this college and I wanted to extend that experience, which is why I’ve come back for my degree. The college has a lot to offer a student — from well-maintained facilities to good teachers. The environment is student-friendly. I will do my MBA after this,” says Swati, who is pursuing her BCom from the college.
Deepika Sharma, who has also done her PUC here, says that the transition was quite easy.

“I’ve made some great friends here and had a lovely time. The teachers are very friendly and the fests are very well organised. I will be taking part in modelling and dance during my years here,” she informs.

Not everybody has the comfort of knowing the campus beforehand, however. For Deepak Chander, entering college is a really exciting new phase in life. “It’s a great atmosphere here. You have very supportive teachers, who are willing to help you out even if you’re not the best student in class. It goes beyond academics and I’m hoping to take back a lot of experiences from my time here,” he says, with optimism in his voice.

His thoughts resonate with other freshers, who not only feel that the course is good but are keen to absorb the practical knowledge on offer and experience the new feeling of growing up owing to new responsibilities.

Most of them admit that they have done prior research on the college and are mentally prepared for the years ahead.  “I came here by choice. I heard about the regularity and emphasis on sports and other activities here from my friends and seniors. It’s been pretty impressive so far,” says Sanjay, a BCom fresher, to which his batchmate Girish S adds, “I feel that my future is in safe hands.”
