KSCA XI in complete control

Karun Nair slams brilliant 256 to propel KSCA Secretary's XI

Southpaws Ravikant Shukla and Darshan Misal rescued Goa from a precarious position on the second day of their Safi Darashah match against KSCA XI at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Wednesday.

Goa were staring down the barrel at 58/4 at one stage after KSCA XI, resuming on 334/3, powered along at more than eight runs per over to close their innings at 527/6 in 120 overs. The weather disrupted the proceedings at 4.15 pm, forcing the day’s play to be called off at 5.00 pm with Goa at 153/4.

Chasing a formidable total, much was expected of Goa skipper Swapnil Asnodkar but he was the first to go as Manish Pandey took a smart catch at second slip off Abhimanyu Mithun. They were three down in no time as Rohan Belekar was run out by KP Appanna and Amogh Desai gave a straight forward chance to the same fielder at point off HS Sharath.

SL Akshay soon removed Rohit Asnodkar and the dismissal joined Misal with Shukla. Shukla opened his innings with a flurry of boundaries and soon deposited Appanna’s left arm spin over long on for two huge sixes.  Misal started off a bit edgy but soon moved through the gears. The unbroken fifth wicket partnership, worth 95, might have saved blushes for Goa on the day, but a stiff task beckons them on the morrow.
Earlier, after Sayyed Baddiuzzamma had removed KSCA XI skipper CM Gautam, Manish Pandey (87 n.o., 128b, 7x4) played the role of sheet anchor as Amit Verma 54 (63b, 5x4) and Mithun 58 (31b, 2x4, 5x6) pummeled the Goan bowling into submission.

After Verma had set the platform, Mithun began his innings with a barrage of hits to the boundary. A heave over deep square leg was followed by a massive six over deep mid-wicket. He soon reached his 50 off just 24 balls. For the visitors, Baddiuzzamma completed a five-wicket haul when he sent back Mithun, who was deceived by a slower ball and was snapped up by Asnodkar at mid-off.

Meanwhile, at SJCE, Mysore, Karun Nair struck a brilliant 256 to power KSCA Secretary’s XI to 479/9 declared in 119 overs against Andhra CA.

Nair, 60 overnight, was in great touch as he tore apart Andhra bowling single-handedly.
