A plantation drive was launched by chief minister Sheila Dikshit at Golf Links Park on Wednesday. The first sapling was planted by a 95-year-old woman and around 50 schoolchildren joined Dikshit in planting saplings.

“People from all age groups gathered in the park to accelerate the pace of plantation in NDMC area,” Dikshit said.

She added that her government plans to develop canopies of trees at roads which will provide shade to pedestrians. “But it will require proper trimming at regular intervals,” she said.

She also underlined the need for proper care of the planted saplings for their growth.
Secretary (environment) Sanjiv Kumar, secretary (New Delhi Municipal Council) Vikas Anand, additional secretary (environment) Sandeep Mishra and CEO of Delhi parks and garden society were also present.
