The ‘Rajguru Fashion Parade’, which took place at Sheraton Brigade recently, showcased their latest range of designer saris as well as exclusive ones worn by actress Sonakshi Sinha in Lootera.

After the lamp-lighting ceremony and several speeches that prolonged the already delayed show, the show began with a performance by ‘Fictitious’, a popular dance group that used hip-hop and acrobatics in their Ganesh Vandana.

Benny Dayal and his band were next to play. They warmed up the crowd with hits like Dil Se and Tu Hi Toh Meri Dost Hai.

An interesting format was used where the fashion show began while Benny was singing on stage.

His presence lightened the mood for the models, who gave in to his antics and burst out laughing as he accompanied them dancing up and down the ramp.

There was quite a variety to see in the collections — the selection of colours ranging from dull reds to the brightest blues, prints, stripes, exquisite borders, gold work, heavy embroidery and what not!

The ‘Lotus’ collection was not only colourful but also graceful. The ‘Shimmer’ collection catered to the more sophisticated, the Shtrushti collection represented the elements of nature and the Garima collection brought out the beauty of printed cotton saris.

Choreographed by Lubna Adams, the show saw the big names walking — Anchal Kumar, Tamara Moss, Kanishtha Dhankar, Dipannita Sharma, Mashoom Singha, Pia Trivedi, and Krishna Somani among others.

Finally, the show-stopper Sonakshi Sinha came on stage, wearing a gorgeous black sari and interacting with the audience.

She said, “I feel great wearing these beautiful saris. They have saris for every occasion and every age group of women. Being a youngster in the industry, I’m glad that they thought of me to represent them. I think that they’re trying to reach out to a lot more women — young, middle aged or old when it comes to saris. I’m happy to be associated with them because I’ve worn a sari right from my first film. People say that I look graceful and best in saris.”

Designers in the crowd also looked impressed by the collection. “It’s nice to see Sonakshi wearing saris. I have taught her design in the past and it was fun seeing my student walk the ramp this way. I loved the ‘Lotus’ collection, which had some really intricate embroidery work. What I liked best was that there were no loud colours and even the ones that were loud looked subdued. It’s great for a modern young Indian woman,” said designer Amy Billimoria.

Even those who weren’t from the fashion world but just there to have a good time were of a similar opinion.

“The saris are really good and have a classy look. It was interesting to see how the models pulled off the sari and how Sonakshi looked in it. She’s a goddess of Indian attire,” said Seema Vikas, an audience member.
