Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has provided bus connectivity to 2473 villages in the district. As there are no roads connecting 93 villages in the district, bus connectivity has not yet been possible, said KSRTC’s divisional controller, P Narayanaswamy here on Tuesday.

Speaking at an interaction programme held at Hassan Working Journalists Association office, he said that there were five depots in the district from which 646 buses operated in 640 routes. Dismissing concern about the state of buses, he said that all buses were in good condition.

There was a 70 per cent raise in dearness allowance of workers since April, which is a burden for KSRTC. Moreover, diesel prices have also been revised several times in the past few months adding to the losses of the Corporation, he said.

On the demolition of old bus stand in Hassan, he said that KSRTC had obtained permission from the City Municipal Council (CMC). Despite this, CMC has served a notice. We have consulted CMC commissioner Nagabhushan about the issue, he said.

A new building will come up in the place at the old bus stand area. Parking facility for 100 cars and 1200 to 1500 two wheelers will be provided at the ground floor of the building. There will be four bus bays and other facilities to benefit the travellers. The building is being built keeping in mind the requirements for the bus stand in the next 30 years. The bus stand will come up in the next 18 months, he said.
