Admitting that there was confusion in admissions to medical and engineering colleges in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said steps would be taken to address the issues immediately.

“I have discussed the matter with Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande and instructed him to resolve the issues immediately,” he said.

The chief minister, who was in the National Capital to attend a meeting convened by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to discuss the coming Lok Sabha polls, told reporters that from next year, the government would take steps to ensure a smooth admission process.

From the next year onwards, the CET admission process will be done before the Comed-K starts the process, he said.

The government will study the current system of admission and bring changes if required to make it more transparent, he said.

Dismissing allegations that the government had messed up the system to help private institutions, he said, “The government is not under any sort of pressure. All steps will be taken to protect students’ interests.”
