Crisis has made me stronger: CM

Last Updated 09 November 2009, 17:45 IST

Yeddyurappa, on Monday, categorically said: “The core committee will decide on who should be inducted in the Cabinet.”

He was speaking to press persons after holding a meeting with select ministers at his residence. The CM said the party’s state president Sadananda Gowda would soon announce the composition of the core committee.

He said he would complete the five-year term as the chief minister as the high command had been reiterating that there would be no change in the leadership since the day the political crisis began.
The CM faced a volley of questions on the events that unfolded in the last 14 days. For most of the questions, Yeddyurappa repeated what he had been stating for media consumption. Excerpts:

What was the formula that resolved the issue?

Only formula is we should work together for the welfare of the people. No other formula.

Reddys made many unsavoury remarks against you. How will you continue to sit with them in the Cabinet meetings?

As a Chief Minister one should have patience and inculcate the nature of forgiving others. Janardhana Reddy and I interacted for about five minutes at Sushma Swaraj’s residence in Delhi. Reddy’s behaviour during the interaction deserves appreciation.

Don’t you and your party leaders feel guilty for not responding to the problems of flood victims after these developments?

People in politics need to be cautious about their behaviour. I have already apologised to the people of the State for our mistakes. I also wept for the mistake committed. I assure the people that I will not allow such incidents to repeat. I have also decided to change style of my functioning. I will maintain a cordial relationship with all MLAs.

Will the constitution of the core committee take away your authority as CM?

Core committee will not take decisions concerned to administration. The committee will look after party issues and those related to co-ordination between the party and the govt.

When will you hold the BJP legislature party meeting?

Senior leaders of the party will decide on the BJPLP. We will invite our national leaders also for the meeting.

Has these developments made you weak?

No. In fact, my strength has improved after holding talks with the high command. Now, I can work like a 18-year old youth.

Shobha Karandlaje resigns

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa on Monday morning said he would not drop any ministers from the cabinet until the core-committee meets. However, by afternoon, he accepted the resignation of RDPR minister Shobha Karandlaje. The CM had convened a meeting of select nine ministers and 14 MLAs at his residence on Monday morning. Shobha Karandlaje did not attend the meeting. To a specific question if he would take Shobha’s resignation, the CM said no one would be dropped until the core committee meets. Prominent among those who were not seen at the breakfast meeting were Bommai, R Ashok Katta Subramanya Naidu and K S Eshwarappa.
