Janagruti Jatha launched to protest against the hike in prices of food grains

He was speaking after inaugurating the Janajagruti Jatha against price hike at bus stand in Bagepalli on Monday.

The Jatha was jointly organised by the CPM, Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, Prantha Krushi Koolikaarara Sangha, DYFI, SFI, Janawadi Mahila Sangha and CITU. The Jatha was also organised seeking food security.

Political mileage

“The BJP government in order gain political mileage in the Loka Sabha elections had distributed temporary ration cards to the people. However, these cards are now useless,” Reddy added.
The government instead of strengthening the Public Distribution System (PDS) has been involved in distributing temporary ration cards which have lost utility. This along with the apathetic management can be determinant to entire PDS, Reddy expressed.

Swaminathan report

Reddy said that the poor food scenario prevailing in the State can be known by examining the report prepared by Swaminathan Foundation.

He said that 1 out of every four person in the State were suffering from hunger and women and children were malnourished.

Senior CPM leaders C D Gangulappa, Kolimipalli Venkatswamy Reddy, Hosahudya Ramalingappa, Nagaraj, Channarayappa, former TMC member Krishnappa and others were present on the occasion.
