Metal battle

Mumbai band ‘Devoid’ will get on stage with a home-coming concert at ‘Wacken Open Air’ to be held on August 24, 8 pm at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan. ‘Wacken’, the world’s biggest metal festival, is now firmly on the metal map of Bangalore in the shape of ‘Bangalore Open Air’, which has seen two exciting editions so far. ‘Devoid’ call themselves ‘Downright Thrash Metal’ and are ‘against the establishment’. The band received rave reviews for this album. Their new EP titled ‘The Invasion’ was nominated for six categories in the ‘Rolling Stone Metal Awards’ of which they won the ‘Best Drummer’ nomination. The opening act is by ‘The Downtroddence’.

‘Kala Sangam’

An aesthetic symphony of odissi and bharatanatyam titled Kala Sangam will be staged at Nrithya Sabha Rasadhare, 10th Cross, Coconut Avenue, Malleswaram on August 25, 6.30 pm. On the occasion, Vidushi Manasi (odissi) and Vidwan Raghunandan S (bharatanatyam) would be presenting a unique duet collage of the two dance forms.

‘Art Bengaluru...’

‘Art Bengaluru 2013’ will now be on till August 25 at The Collection, UB City. A unique feature that has been added to the festival is a ‘Sculpture Park’, showcasing 35 sculptures by established as well as up-and-coming artistes. One of the most
popular sculptures is a portrait of Bob Marley. Among the sculptures on display, there are also some international ones, which have been made in Spain and Italy.

Classical touch

Shree Sharada Samskruthika Sangha is organising a Carnatic classical instrumental concert on its premises on August 24 at 6.30 pm. Vidwan Sai Tejas Chandrashekar will perform at the event. For details, call 23480234.


An improvisational comedy show ‘The Improv’ by Centerstage, will be held on August 25, 7 pm to 8.30 pm, at LikeThat Only, Whitefield. It is directed by Saad Khan and produced by Pooja Sampath Maaz Khan.

Vijay Kiran and Nairs’ Friends Association is organising ‘NFA-Nite’ at Sangeetha Sabha, Behind Indiranagar Club, on August 25 at 5.30 pm. Natasha Ramanujam, the classically trained French horn player from the US, will be performing at St Mark’s Cathedral, MG Road on August 24, 6.30 pm. Natasha Ramanujam has presented numerous concerts throughout North America, Chile, Argentina, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria with multiple ensemble including the ‘San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra’ and the ‘New England Conservatory Youth Philharmonic Orchestra’ in Boston.

‘Raga Reetigoula’

Ananya is holding as part of Geetha Shastra Sinchana-17, Raga Reetigoula by Priyanka Prakash on August 25, 10 am at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, Malleswaram. There will also be rendering of compositions of Narayana Theertha by
Vrinda Acharya.

Vocal strains

Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira will present a grand vocal concert by Vidushi Amrutha Venkatesh, ‘A’ grade artiste of AIR and Doordarshan in both vocal and veena, on August 25, 5.30 pm at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira Concert Hall, 9th Main, Banashankari II Stage. She will be accompanied on violin by Vidwan MR Gopinath and on mridangam by Vidwan SJ Arjun Ganesh.

Ethnic items

‘Slice of Bengal’ is organising an exhibition of ethnic products from West Bengal on August 24 and 25 at Bengal Cultural Association Hall, close to Ulsoor Lake. The show will be open from 11 am to 8 pm. It will have the best of handloom and handicrafts from West Bengal.

Devotional songs

As part of the ‘Shrimati Pendakur Ramakka Memorial Music Festival’, devotional songs by senior Hindustani vocal artist Nagaraja Rao Hawaldar and team will be rendered on August 25, 5.30 pm.
