DTE to approve admissions after colleges upload fee details

Last Updated 23 August 2013, 21:28 IST

The Department of Technical Education (DTE) has specified that the final approval of admissions for colleges will be approbed only after colleges upload details of fees of their respective websites and provide the information to the department — even as the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has begun the reconciliation process for engineering colleges.

As part of the reconciliation process, the colleges are required to submit details of all candidates admitted in their colleges and the number of vacant seats. Once the KEA conducts the reconciliation meeting, it amounts to approval of admissions. The colleges later have to approach the DTE for getting seats under the management quota approved.

As a final step they have to submit details to the universities, which will give the final nod.
As a measure to regulate additional fee collected in some engineering colleges, this year, when the colleges meet the DTE for approval of management seats, they will also be required to give details of fee collected from every student. “Unless they have uploaded all these details, we will not approve the admissions,” said DTE director H U Talawar.  Till now, only 69 colleges have uploaded the details.

With regard to excess fee, nine colleges have been advised to refund the additional amount collected from candidates, he added.

“The issue of excess fee is rather tricky as it is said to be optional and some students complain that they are threatened by officials. In some cases, students have withdrawn complaints. However, if the complainants are willing to stand by their complaints, this office can take steps, including recommendation of disaffiliation,” an official release from the Saidapur Committee said.
