He also reportedly duped a real estate agent with Rs 10 lakh under the guise of ‘making him joint owner of the land.’

Umashankar, a resident of Rajarajeshwarinagar, had purchased a site measuring 1.17 acres at Halagevaderahalli (Survey no.: 242/2) from one Muni Venkat on May 31, 2006. He promised Mirle Varadaraj (55), a real estate agent, of making him a joint owner of the land and took Rs 10 lakh from him. Later, he approached the Rajarajeshwarinagar Sub Registrar’s office for obtaining 11E sketch, a revenue document. When the tahsildar refused to issue, he ‘forged his signature and misused his official stamp’ for the same. Later, Mirle Varadaraj got suspicious of the entire affair and sought information under the RTI Act on February 13, 2009.

The tahsildar, in his response on March 3, 2009, told the applicant that the 11E sketch could not be issued for the said deed. Mirle Varadaraj now realised that Umashankar had apparently forged the tahsildar’s signature and misused the official stamp to achieve the end.
