Storm damage at Arkalgud

 Heavy damage was reported at Garighatta village in the taluk due to heavy rains that has been accompanied by lightning and thunder on Monday evening.

More than 60 trees were uprooted and thirty houses were damaged. The roof tiles, sheet were blown away. About 25 coconut trees have been uprooted.

Devarajegowda of the village suffered injuries when the roof blew away and debris fell on him. The household articles have been completedly damaged and the paddy and ragi that were stored in the granary were destroyed.

A calf was killed when a tree fell on the house of Swamigowda. The whole village plunged into darkness as the electric poles fell and the power supply snapped.

Villages were seen struggling to save themselves and livestock in the cover of darkness. They said that they had not experienced such a storm in the recent years.

Apart from Garighatta village no other surrounding village reported such heavy rain damage.

Compensation

MLA A Manju visited the spot and took stock of the situation. He also assured of suitable compensation to the affected. Incessant rains in the past two months has affected the normal life of the residents here. Commercial crops like tobacco, potato, maize, ginger have been destroyed.

Arkalgud received 10.4 mm rains, Doddamagga 16.4 mm, Ramanathapura 46.2 mm, Basavapatna 19.2, Konanur 10.4 mm, Malipatna 1.0 mm.
