City's youth savour delights post midnight

When hunger pangs strike us in the middle of the night, what options do we usually have? Making a dash to India Gate for some snacks and chuski or gorging on the steamy hot paranthas around Moolchand and Nizamuddin railway station? But not all of us have the option of visiting these places.

“Starving after a 9pm to 4am shift at our office in Gurgaon, we used to halt our cab around Connaught place in the wee hours of the morning. Breakfast back then was rajma-chawal or paranthe,” says Preet Kaur, a recruitment executive in an MNC. But not anymore, adds Preet. Off late, Delhi-NCR is experiencing an escalation in the growth of the midnight food joints that deliver your food right at your doorstep.

From Midnight Munchies to Batman Delivers, these quirkily named food delivery hubs cater to the segment of Delhiites who love eating food round the clock. “Now, I don’t have to settle for paranthas and tea,” says Preet while rolling out one of these
midnight food menus to show us. These hubs get activated around 10 or 11 pm and work till 4 am. Take a look at their menu and you will find
yourself spoilt for choice.

The offerings include pastas, pizzas, exotic varieties of desserts apart from regular homestyled thalis. Besides food, they offer essentials such as sanitary pads, cigarettes and a lot more. Samiya Latif, a young professional explains, “Apart from assuring quick, hot and delicious food, these food delivery hubs make sure that they do not end up creating any fuss around residential colonies in the night. They maintain a strict policy about not ringing the bell of your house at the time of delivery even if nobody turns up after incessant phone calls.”

A young software engineer residing in South Delhi, Mayank Paliwal just cannot stop gushing about these food hubs. Weekends are the time when you want to relax back home and invite over your friends for a meet-up. Mayank tells Metrolife, “South Delhi has a multitude of midnight home-delivery options now. They take care of my post-midnight parties at home. It would be great if we could get the same experience in Greater Noida, where I work.”
