Two senior AP cops under scanner

Last Updated 06 September 2013, 19:45 IST

The Supreme court on Friday directed the CBI to probe the assets and properties of the Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police (DGP) V Dinesh Reddy and also the allegations of forgery against another IPS officer Umesh Kumar.

The apex court order came in response to a petition filed by Kumar who has been at loggerheads with Reddy ever since the latter’s appointment as the DGP. The two senior cops have traded allegations against each other.

Kumar had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking an investigation into the properties and assets acquired by the DGP, wife Kamala Reddy and other relatives. Delivering the judgment, the court felt that it was imperative for any persons, however high a post one might be holding, to face an inquiry when such allegations were being made.

In the same breath, the court made it clear that Kumar, too, had to face an inquiry in connection with a case against him in which he was alleged to have forged signatures. The apex court in its direction also said any objections from the two IPS officers could be resolved in the trial court. Interestingly, the court delivered two verdicts on a single petition.
