The State BJP core committee is likely to discuss on Thursday a date for inviting Gujarat Chief Minister and National Campaign Committee chairman Narendra Modi to the State.

According to party sources, the State BJP will organise two mega conventions - one in Bangalore and one at a district centre - for Modi. Modi’s first visit to Karnataka after he was appointed campaign committee chairman gains significance as it is likely to provide the platform for former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s re-entry into the BJP. A delegation led by senior leader D V Sadananda Gowda had recently met Modi in Ahmedabad to discuss the return of Yeddyurappa to the BJP fold.

The BJP has also lined up a series of meetings on Thursday including that of district presidents and general secretaries and party regional in-charges. The core committee is also likely to appoint in-charges to each of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State and discuss the possibility of entering into alliances with parties for the election to presidents and vice presidents to various urban local bodies. Senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu will be in Bangalore to participate in the meetings, the sources said.

K S Eshwarappa, who had been at loggerheads with Yeddyurappa, now has no reservations for the re-entry of his one-time associate.

Asked whether he is still sore with Yeddyurappa, Eshwarappa said none in the BJP including himself, wanted him to quit the BJP.

“He quit the party because of various reasons. So, if he wants to come back then who would oppose it? Anyhow, things would take shape only after Modi is declared the PM.
