'My friend's soul will now rest in peace'

The male friend of the Dec 16, 2012 gang-rape victim, happy after a court awarded capital punishment to the four convicts in the case, said her soul would now rest in peace.

"My friend's soul will now rest in peace," he told IANS.

"This is a victory of the nation and I am very happy with the court's decision," he said.
He also said the fight would continue if the accused approached the higher courts.

"The fight is not over. And I am ready if they (accused) move the higher courts," he said.

He said he talked to the father of his friend and assured him that he was with them always.

The young woman was raped by six people, including a juvenile, in a moving bus in south Delhi. Her male friend was also attacked by the men and the duo, later thrown out of the bus.

The girl succumbed to her injuries in a Singapore hospital Dec 29 after battling for life.
