A BTech student reportedly hanged herself at her Dwaraka Nagar home in Bagalur police limits on Monday afternoon over what is suspected to be the fear of examination and academic pressure.

In a suicide note, Kajal Jena, a fifth-semester student Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, Krishnadevaraya Nagar, Hunasamaranahalli on Bengaluru International Airport Road, said she decided to take the extreme step as she could no longer cope with academic pressure and fear of examination.

She locked herself up in a bedroom and did not go to college although she was to write a test on Monday. Her worried mother then knocked on the door to check up on her but she did not respond. She then peeped through the window into the room and was stunned to see her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan, police explained. The deceased’s father, Amarvilas Jena, is a retired Indian Navy serviceman. The family hails from Odisha.

Godown burgled

A four-member gang burgled an electrical godown of Sterling Wilson Pvt Ltd in Hoodi and decamped with copper wire worth Rs 5 lakh after assaulting and tying up two security guards Rajashekar and Sunil, both in their 30s.

They were later freed by passersby after which they lodged a complaint with Mahadevapura Police. The police, however, suspect the guards themselves, as the two were giving contradictory versions.
