The State government is likely to transfer a large number of police officers of various ranks on Friday.

The list of officers to be transferred had been finalised and was expected to be announced on Thursday, but due to some reasons, it has been delayed by a day, sources in the DG&IGP’s office told Deccan Herald.

The government has also decided to promote more than 70 police inspectors, besides transferring sub inspectors, inspectors and deputy superintendents (DySPs).

The Home department, the sources said further, had not decided on the promotions in the wake of the amendment to the Article 371 of the Constitution, which accorded special status to Hyderabad-Karnataka region. The top brass in the department have now decided to issue conditional promotions, the sources said.

Many officers in Bangalore, who are expecting promotions, are likely to be promoted and transferred out of the City. They are, however, using all means to stay back in the City and have even agreed to promotion to non-executive posts in any wing of the police force in the City, the sources said.

A high level of secrecy is being maintained on the transfers, which will be “on a large-scale,” the sources added.
