Last Updated 23 September 2013, 07:55 IST

IT giant Wipro organised the eighth edition of the Spirit of Wipro Run on Sunday with the theme ‘For the Long Run.’

Around 14,000 employees, along with their families, took part in the marathon, which was divided under categories 5 km, 10 km and 21 km, at Electronic City. The marathon was held simultaneously at 97 cities across the world and was flagged off in Bangalore by Wipro Chairperson Azim Premji.

Wipro Chief Executive Officer T K Kurien said, “The Spirit of Wipro Run celebrates the idea of endurance in personal and corporate life. The participants need to work hard for this event and they take it as a challenge. It is a special day for us as this run reaches out to employees, customers, families, friends and all stakeholders globally, across 97 cities. More than 50,000 runners, including 300 customers, will come together one day for this run.”

The proceeds of the run will be contributed to a cause relevant to the local community identified by the Wipro Care unit.

“I have been participating in various marathons organised by IT companies and enormous amount of hard work goes into the preparation for any marathon. It is also fun to take part in events like these,” said a software engineer Sridhar C R.
