Second batch of elephants reach city

Five elephants, including the howdah carrier Arjuna, had arrived in the first batch

Five elephants from Dubare elephant camp, which left Kushalnagar in the morning, reached Amba Vilas Palace premises on Tuesday evening.

Harsha, Vikarama, Vijaya, Prashanth and Gopi are the five elephants that arrived. Srirama, a 55 year old elephant arrived fifteen days ago, while Gopalswamy, Durgaparameshwari from Thitimathi elephant camp had arrived on Monday.

Srirama, has been brought from K Gudi elephant camp and was captured in Thithimathi elephant camp in Kodagu district in 1969. The elephant has been participating in Dasara from the past 16 years. It was brought 15 days ago to take part in a rescue operation at Magadi in Ramanagara district, which was later called off.

Gopalaswamy, a 31 year old elephant from Thithimathi elephant camp. He was captured at Sakleshpur in 2009 and has been participating in Dasara for the last two years.
Durgaparameshwari, a 46 year old elephant was captured in 1972 at Dubare and is participating in Dasara for the first time.

Vijaya, 56 year old female elephant was captured at Dubare elephant camp and is participating in Dasara from nine years. Vikrama has also been brought from the same camp and is 40 years old. The elephant was captured in 1990 at Doddabetta forest and has participated in Dasara for nine years.

Harsha, a 46 year old elephant was also captured at Doddabetta in 1990 and is taking part in Dasara for 11 years.

Prashantha, a 57 year old elephant is also from the same camp and was captured in Kaarekoppa forests in 1993 and is participating in Dasara from seven years. Gopi, a 31 year old elephant, captured in Kaarekoppa in 1993 and is taking part in Dasara from the last three years.

Five elephants, Arjuna, Balarama, Abhimanyu, Gajendra, Sarala and Varalakshmi had arrived in the first batch from Balle elephant camp.

A total of 14 elephants participating in Dasara have now been lodged at the Palace premises.
