There’s a lot happening during the weekend. Metrolife lists out some of the interesting events

‘Vastrabharana’

The Crafts Council of Karnataka is organising Vastrabharana, an exhibition of hand-made textiles, at Chitrakala Parishat from September 28 to October 2. On display will be chanderi handlooms traditionally woven for the Scindia royals of Gwalior, finely woven and printed khadi of Karnataka, natural-dyed weaves of Assam, handblock printed silk dyes with natural prints etc.

Interesting act
As part of Ranga Tantra’s annual ‘Naatakotsava 2013’, on September 28, 7 pm at KH Kalasoudha, the play Nanagyaako Doutu by Lakshman Rao will be staged. On September 29, 7 pm,
Ammavra Ganda by TP Kailasam will be presented.

Various talents
Tharang Utsav 2013, a classical music and dance festival, will be held on September 28 and 29 at ADA Rangamandira. There will be a flute recital at 4.30 pm by Suryanarayanan Iyer bharatanatyam by Aparna Vinod at 5.30 pm and bharatanatyam by Bhragha Bessel at 6.30 pm.
There will be a Hindustani vocal recital at 4.30 pm by Rina Basu, odissi at 5.30 pm by Sharmila Mukherjee and bharatanatyam at 6.30 pm by B Bhanumathi and Sheela Chandrashekhar.

Different take
‘Essence of Life – A Revolution in Dance and Music’, a dance and music show, will be held on September 28, 6 pm at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall. It will showcase the insights and the unique approach of Jiddu Krishnamurti through dance and music. There will be performances by renowned dancers in bharatanatyam, mohiniyattam, kathak, odissi and kuchipudi dance forms. Beautiful blend
As part of the ‘Malle­swaram Youth Festival’, at Malleswaram Gro­unds on September 28, 6.30 pm, the ‘Drishti Dance Ensemble’ will present a spectacular classical and contemporary dance feature.
Yuvagni, a film-based fusion extravaganza will be presented by the Praveen D Rao ensemble and Yuva Shakthi, a fusion dance and music by college students, will be held.

On the piano
The Majolly Music Trust, in association with Theme and Kawai pianos, is holding the second concert in its ‘Young Performer Concert Series’, featuring Dhruva Seshadri (piano) and Susanne Charlotte Berns (violin).
The venue is Theme Piano World, Koramangala, and the event will be held on September 29, 5.30 pm.

Group art
Sublime Galleria will host ‘Melange’ – a group art exhibition by 18 established and emerging artists — till October 10.
The artists are Bheemaraya Devikeri, Mahesh Pattar, Ruchika Motwani, Shibu Arakkal, Triveni Vinod, Konda Srinivasa Rao, Vivek Rao, Dnyati Wagh, Neena Vaishampayan, Swati Pasari, Elena-Renee Pereira, Sonu Mulchandani, Milind Nayak, Sujata Sah Sejekan, SA Vimalanathan, Pragya Jain, Usha Shantharam and Bhavana. The timing is 11 am to 8 pm.

High energy
Submerge will present dance-music prodigy Mat Zo at Royal Orchid on September 28, 8 pm. Mat Zo is part of a new breed of DJ/producers and is armed with a bevy of hits. He has gone on to remix pop princess Kylie and has beco­me a reckoned name in dr­um, bass and trance scenes.

Annual production
Inventure Academy is staging their annual production ‘The Kick, the Quest, the Question’, on September 28, 6.30 pm at MLR Convention Centre, Whitefield Cross Road.

Shadow theatre
Yours Truly Theatre Repertory will present a complete shadow theatre performance ‘The Nuisance of Hamlet’, directed by Ranji David, for children on September 28 and 29, 3 pm and 6.30 pm at Yours Truly Alma. For telebooking, call 9845243051.

Musical homage
Pandit Madhav Gudi Foundation is organising the event ‘A musical homage to Pandit Madhav Gudi’, on September 28, 5 pm at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

German presence
At the ‘Bangalore Literature Festival’ to be held at Hotel Crowne Plaza till September 29, Bas Böttcher, Tilman Rammstedt, Abbas Khider, Christopher Kloeble and Saskya Jain will be participating.

Two German books translated into English by Seagull Publishers, Kolkata through the ‘Goethe-Institut Global Translation Grant Programme’ will be released at the festival in the presence of the authors and publisher. The books are ‘The Village Indian’ (Der falsche Inder) by Abbas Khider and ‘The Emperor of China’ by Tilman Rammstedt.

Dance delight
The 25th edition of Ashish Mohan Khokar’s ‘Dance DISCourse’ will be held at Alliance Francaise on September 28, 6.30 pm. Sharmila Mukherjee, Gayatri Ranbir and Meghna Das will perform dance pieces composed by Kelucharan Mohapatra, Debaprasad Das and Mayadhar Raut. The evening will also feature odissi dancer Madhulita Mohapatra and her students from ‘Nrityantar’. The evening will begin with the screening of a film from ‘The Mohan Khokar Dance Archives’ on Orissa temples and sculptures, capturing the history, evolution and the journey of the dance. The programme will conclude with an interactive academic question-answer session with the audience.
