Woman falls while boarding bus, dies

A 47-year-old woman died shortly after falling down while attempting to board a bus at the BMTC bus stand in Majestic on Monday morning.

Meera, a teacher and a native of Tamil Nadu, had come to Bangalore to visit her sister, a researcher at the Indian Institute of Science. Meera was accompanied by her husband, Bhaskar, and daughter, Harshini.

Bhaskar and Harshini boarded the bus (route No 273) on platform 19B and were waiting for Meera to get in, when the bus moved forward. Meera lost her balance, fell down and sustained a severe head injury as her head struck the floor.

She was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but succumbed to her injuries shortly afterwards. Upparpet police have registered a case.

Freak accident

A woman worker was killed when a stone came crashing down on her at an under-construction building on Chunchughatta Main Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Manjamma, 30, was having lunch in the basement pit of the three-storey apartment complex when the stone from among the construction material stocked above fell on her. Although she was immediately rushed to a private hospital nearby, she died of her injuries late in the evening. Subramanyapura police have registered a case.
