The condition of the four-year-old girl, who was raped by a sweeper in Rajnandgaon, is stable but she continues to be in ICU with multiple injuries in her private parts, doctors at the Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College Hospital here said.

After regaining consciousness, she spoke to her parents and informed them about the incident.

"She continues to be in the ICU. Her condition is critical, but stable. She has suffered serious injuries in her private parts and it will take a long time to heal," hospital superintendent Vivek Choudhary told PTI today.

She underwent surgery on Sunday while more surgical procedures are scheduled for the coming days and she is under continuous observation by a team of doctors, Choudhary said.
Infuriated by the incident, the girl's parents have demanded capital punishment for the accused who raped the girl on Sunday.

"We have faith in the law of the land that it will award death penalty to the accused for such a heinous crime. After regaining conscious, she spoke to us and narrated how brutally she was assaulted," the victim's father told reporters.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Raman Singh and chairperson of the Chhattisgarh State Women's Commission Vibha Rao visited the hospital and directed the authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the girl.

Condemning the incident, the Chief Minister said stringent action would be taken against the accused.

"I condemn the brutal incident of rape of a four-year-old girl and pray for her speedy recovery. Stringent action should be taken against the accused," Singh said.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress blamed the BJP government claiming it had failed to provide safety to women and girls in the state.
