Ramachandra elected M'lore TP chief, Sriyala deputy

. Sriyala G Hegde JD(S) of Padumarnadu constituency has been elected as the Vice-President.

K Ramachandra Kumpala (BJP) and T A Abdul Khader (Cong) had filed nomination for the post of President while Sriyala G Hegde JD(S) and Sujatha (Congress) had filed nomination for the post of Vice-President.  In fact, the post of President was reserved for general category and Vice President for women general. Taluk Panchayat has 37 seats of which Congress has 16, BJP-15, JD(S)- 4 and CPM- 2. Earlier, BJP and JD(S) had alliances and had shared power for 40 months. With JD(S) member Sumana Nayak tendering resignation, both had 18-18 members each. As a result, the election was held by raising the hand. Accordingly, Ramachandra Kumpala received 18 votes while T A Abdul Khader got 17 as CPM member Dayavathi remained neutral. In election to Vice-President post, Sriyala G Hegde received 18 votes while Sujatha managed to secure only 17.
Speaking to presspersons later, he expressed his desire to work for the overall development of the taluk.

He sought the co-operation of all the members in carrying out the developmental work in the Mangalore taluk.  AC Prabhulinga Kavalikatte conducted the election.

Bantwal TP

M Babu of BJP has been elected as the president of Bantwal taluk panchayat while Chandrahas Karkera of Congress has been elected as the Vice-President. The post of President was reserved for SC while the Vice-President was for General category. Since both Congress and BJP had equal votes 16 in the election process, it was decided to elect through picking lots. TP has 33 seats. This include 18 Congress andd 15 BJP.

Puttur TP

Savithri Shivaram of BJP and Radhakrishna Borkar of BJP have been elected unanimously as the President and Vice President of Puttur Taluk Panchayat. Puttur TP has 22 seats, of which BJP has 13 and Congress has 9 members. The post of President was reserved for General women and VP for general male. In fact, Savithri Shivaram is the sister of D V Sadananda Gowda.

Sullia TP

Pushpavathi Balila and Shankar Peraje have been elected as the President and Vice President of Sullia TP respectively. Pushpavathi Balila was Vice President in the previous tenure and Shankar Peraje was the President.

Belthangady TP

Vijay Kumar and Tanuja Shekar have been elected as the President and Vice-President of Belthangady taluk panchayat. The post of President was reserved for general category and Vice-President for Backward A women.
