Wind energy tariff revised

Last Updated 10 October 2013, 20:40 IST

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on Thursday announced a new tariff for wind energy at Rs 4.20 per unit, for the next five years without escalation.

The previous rate for the purchase of wind energy was Rs 3.70.

Sources said KERC had already communicated both the wind energy tariff and revised solar energy rates to all the escoms on Thursday and they would be implemented immediately.

However, KERC has not made the rates for solar energy public and is expected to announce the tariffs across five categories on Friday. Wind energy producers have been seeking a minimum tariff of Rs 7 per unit.

However, officials in the Energy department said that no state had acceded for such a demand.
