'People have high expectations'

Last Updated 17 October 2013, 14:32 IST

Be it a village rowdy, a stern cop or a romantic hero, Tamil actor Karthi portrays each role with conviction. In real life, the actor is down to earth and has no starry airs about him though he comes from an illustrious family of actors.

In the City to promote his new film, the actor was surrounded by his fans. Despite the chaos around him, Karthi was calm and spoke about his new movie M Rajesh’s All in All Azhagu Raja, which is set to release this festive season.

Karthi  said that he hasn’t done the village boy role after his debut in Paruthiveeran. And that’s why he is eager for this release. The movie, Karthi said, is a typical Rajesh film – it guarantees fun. “With Rajesh at the helm, even the shooting spot is full of laughter. Rajesh takes care of all the fine details – the dialogue delivery,
expressions – making the actor’s job easy. Since he has given so many hits, there are a lot of expectations from the movie and I am sure it will live up to that,” adds Karthi.

Playing the role of a village boy, who runs a local television channel, Karthi says that he had a lot of fun shooting in a small village. “The charm of a small town shines through in the film. People are so jovial and affectionate. By the time you’re done with shooting, you want to settle down there,” he adds. Though his last two films — political satire Saguni and mass entertainer Alex Pandian — received a lukewarm
response, Karthi says that he learnt a lot from them. “I learnt two things— that
people have high expectations from me and that I must never do things I am not convinced about,” says Karthi.

The pressure of people’s expectations, Karthi says, he has learnt to deal with them in course of time. “I finished my education in the United States of America and came to India. At that point of time, I never thought people would accept me as a hero.

But now I am humbled by their appreciation. I was used to seeing my father (Sivakumar) and brother (Suriya) get such appreciation but when I started getting good response from fans, I felt that it was my responsibility to keep doing good movies,” he adds.As for Bangalore, the actor has often visited this place as a college student and finds it a perfect vacation spot.

“The City has changed so much over the years. I love the place and as a child I used to come here often with my family for holidays and enjoyed the cool weather. This place is known for its fashion, lifestyle and so much more. Now that we have started promoting our films here, I would love to visit the City more often,” wraps up Karthi.
