Ramayana, Mahabharatha should be part of curriculum, says Ravi

'It is not right to restrict great leaders within the framework of a caste'

MLA C T Ravi has said that epics like Mahabharatha and Ramayana have values, hence it should be included in the curriculum. 

Speaking at Valmiki Jayanthi programme organised by the district administration here on Friday, “one should not have confusion on the life of Rama. His life should become model for all of us.

 The problems of the citizens were understood by the rulers during the era of Ramayana and Mahabharatha. It is not right to restrict great leaders within the framework of a caste. The work on Valmiki Bhavana should commence within two months,” he said. 

MLC Gayathri Shanthe Gowda said “one can gain power and money. However, it is difficult to get one’s name etched in the minds of the people. All of us should inculcate the preachings of Valmiki.” 

The characters that come in Ramayana have an impact on the minds of the people, said Zilla panchayat president Rekha Huliyappa Gowda. Assistant professor Jagadeesh said “Valimki was a leader of the oppressed class, was a political scientist and an educationist.” Deputy Commissioner B S Shekarappa spoke. Taluk Panchayat president Ambika Shivakumar was present.

Procession

The portrait of Valmiki was taken out in a procession prior to the programme. The procession included ‘Veeragase,’ ‘Chomana Kunitha,’ tableaus, and others. 

Madikeri

MLA M P Appachu Ranjan has said that all of us should read life story of Valmiki who had propagated humanity. 

Speaking at Valmiki Jayanthi on Friday, he said he was a source of inspiration for humanbeing. Field Marshal K M Cariappa College Kannada department lecturer Dr Somanna said that Ramayana and Mahabharatha is greatest epic in the world. Zilla Panchayat president B Shivappa, Standing Committee (Social justice) President S N RajaRao, Vice President Biddanda Usha Devamma, DC Anurag Tiwari, SP M N Anucheth and others were present. A procession prior to the stage programme was taken out from Banni Mantapa. 

Students from ST community who have secured highest marks in PUC were felicitated.
