The time to give your imagination a kick; play around with your makeup skills and dress up as dangerously as you can, is just around the corner. All Hallows’ Eve aka Halloween, the yearly spooky fest celebrated on October 31 is quite a rage amongst Delhiites as well. Metrolife spoke to Delhi-based makeup artiste to check the pulse of the festival in the City.

Since this festival is driven by inspiration from Western culture, the attire and look is also currently drawing deep inspiration from the west. Speaking about it, Colorbar beauty expert  Elizabeth Maria Gilder says, “Certainly reds and blacks rule the roost of the color palette. And keeping in sync with the current trends, neons-reds in matte and creamy textures for lips, charcoal blacks for eyes and a heavy dose of peach blushers for cheeks is in.” Elaborating upon the sizzling smokey-look for the eyes, the artiste adds,” A black shimmer smokey eye palette and a heavy mascara is also in demand along with creative eye and face extensions drawn with water-proof sketch-pen eyeliners. Currently the idea is to look Gothic, yet beautiful.”

Sharing her ideas for the Halloween themes, Verve salon’s makeup expert Puja Taluja says, “Zombie is the best makeup theme which is usually used around this time. Vampire and Dracula are the two themes which rule the roost year after year.” What about our own Indian superheroes and villains? To this, Puja retorts, “Yes, of course Indian superhero Krrish is very much in demand.”

The concept of Halloween is shaping up in Delhi given the strong influence of Western culture through media and television shows. With the rise in Halloween parties in the capital, and event websites marking calendars for Halloween nights, everyone wants to look their evil-best on this occasion.

“Indian women are going that extra mile in looking trendy, modern and stylish at every party, festival or occasion. For something as quirky and unique as Halloween, we are pretty sure, makeup artists and stylists have their calendars choc-o-bloc with styling calls,” says Elizabeth, palpably busy in her work. So, go trick-or-treating, attend costume parties, carve pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns and watch as many scary movies as you can to celebrate Halloween with full gusto this year.
