Flat owners' satyagraha against neglect of 'no man's land' today

Members of Federation of Thubarahalli Apartment Owners' Associations are planning to hold a 'satyagraha' on October 26 to raise their voice against the civic woes plaguing the ‘no man’s land’ in the their locality.

Lack of streetlights and drains, street dog nuisance, absence of Cauvery water supply, garbage crisis among others have been troubling the residents of the stretch leading towards Vibgyor High school, Thubarahalli, Whitefield Main Road (Marathahalli) for a long time now.

Approved by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as a residential land, this road which is approximately one-km-long has apparently no name.
Through the satyagraha, members of the Federation of Thubarahalli Apartment Owners' Associations and volunteers are hoping to catch the attention of the authorities.

“There are around 8000-plus people living in this area. This is the only access road to around ten apartments here. This mud road has been unattended for the past nine years. Two international schools are also situated on this road. The number of vehicles plying through this road is huge which includes 150-odd school buses. Dust pollution has been creating multiple health hazards. Considering all these, the civic authorities should take action now,” said one of the residents.

Members of the association maintained that the road which was under the jurisdiction of the gram panchayat was handed over to the Palike recently.

“One of the landlords who owns a property on the mud road had filed an application under the RTI Act seeking the information on the road, a few months ago. He was shocked to know that the road is a private property and the passage leading towards it is being used as a lane. We do not know on what basis the BBMP granted permission to the land owners to build structures and how they approved the area,” said one of the members.

The members are expecting more than 500 volunteers to take part in the satyagraha that will be held from 10 am to noon.
