Insurance firms told to settle RSBY claims

The Union government has instructed insurance companies to settle all claims under Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), a flagship health scheme, within one month. 

The Ministry of Labour and Employment issued the direction to all Insurance companies following the complaints received by the government over delay in settling hospitalisation claims by the insurance companies and third party administrators (TPAs).

The circular issued by the Ministry to insurance companies said: “It has been observed that claims for even the period 2009-10 have not been settled by the insurance companies or have been rejected without giving any tenable reasons.”

It further added, “Hospital authorities are running from pillar to post to get their claims.”
