Auto driver mugged by 'passengers'

A gang of four men who hired an autorickshaw stabbed the driver and robbed him of Rs 700 in cash and a cellphone near Nagawara on Saturday night.

According to police, the four miscreants rented the auto near Hebbal flyover at about 11.30 pm asking the driver, Manikantha, to drop them off at Nagawara. However, after travelling for about five kilometres, the four got down near Kottanur Railway Gate and refused to pay the driver. Soon, a verbal duel ensued and one of the gang members stabbed the driver with a knife, robbed him of Rs 700, snatched his cellphone and fled the spot.

Manikantha was rescued by a Hoysala police vehicle that was on night patrol. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital.

Police sources say that his condition is stable. Kottanur police have registered a case of robbery.

Vehicle thief held

The JJ Nagar police have arrested Irfan, an alleged two-wheeler thief, and recovered six bikes from him, valued at Rs two lakh. With this arrest, the police claimed to have solved six vehicle thefts in JJ Nagar, Vijayanagar and the Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits.
