Dharwad Zone’s Shivham Gondkar shone with eight wickets but that was not enough to stop President’s XI from taking a comfortable first innings lead in the KSCA inter-zonal under-16 tournament on Wednesday.

Batting first, Dharwad batsmen fell like a pack of cards and were bowled out for a paltry 85 in 42.2 overs. Deepesh Poonia (4/20) and Jerrin Joy (4-41) shared the spoils with four wickets apiece.

In order to contain President’s XI, Dharwad had to bowl out of their skins and while Shivham managed to do so with a fine 8/52, President’s XI still posted 181 all out in 54.4 overs for a 96-run lead.

Brief scores: Raichur Zone: 346/3 in 90 overs (B Varun 114 n.o., Raghavendra 91, Vishwanath 51, Aakash J 72 n.o.; Chinmaya 2-42) vs Bangalore City XI: 32/2 in 12 overs.

Dharwad Zone: 85 all out in 42.3 overs (Iklas Makandar 36; Deepesh Poonia 4-20, Jerrin Joy 4-41) vs President’s XI: 181 all out in 54.4 overs (Surya Srinivas 41, Shreenidhi MA 26; Shivham Gondkar 8-52).

Combined City XI: 59 all out in 37.1 overs (MS Hussain 26; Anirudh 6-11, Siddaram 3-17) and 62/1 in 30 overs vs Mangalore Zone: 55 all out in 33.3 overs (Prithvi D 5-0, Rahul Pinto 2-19, Likith Bannur 2-9).

Shimoga Zone: 118 all out in 59.4 overs (Nikshep 48, Sudheer 2-20, Subham 3-12) vs Bangalore Zone: 113/1 in 43 overs (Aditya Reddy 73 batting, Ankith Aiyappa 38 batting).
