If some interesting new additions to the wardrobe is what one’s looking for, RashG’s is worth checking out.

This boutique was started three years ago by designer Rashmi Gupta, who decided to start her own line of clothing when she couldn’t find the quality of clothes she would have liked to wear in the market.

“I started this line because I wasn’t getting my kind of clothes in Bangalore. Besides, I’ve always wanted to do something like this after studying fashion designing in Lucknow,” shares Rashmi.

“Lucknowi chikan work is my speciality since I’m from there. But what also works in my favour is my customisation. It’s always easier to work with people when you know the kind of colours, cuts and styles they want. Other than that, all the production is done in-house – from the clothes I design to the clutches. The block printing and screen printing for the saris and kurtas is also done by us. The only thing that is outsourced are the digital prints and even for that, I make sure that I oversee what is happening,” explains Rashmi.

While the options available are limited to only kurtas, saris, dress material and bags, the designer makes sure that each piece is unique in some way or the other.

“I’m not sure where the inspiration comes from because it is different each time. Sometimes, I just feel the fabric to know what to do with it. Sometimes, I let my imagination flow. I also keep in mind the trends that are popular in the market. For instance, right now, everybody is trying out digital prints, which is why I experimented with it in a few saris and bags. I also like to set my own trends,” says Rashmi.

Though she doesn’t sell accessories, she maintains that they are needed to accentuate the beauty of the clothes. “You need to accessorise according to the occasion. But the general rule is not to over-accessorise as that takes something away from the look,” she says.

Interestingly, mothers tend to frequent the place, especially during the festive season, to get clothes designed for their children.

“We customise clothes for children when people approach us,” adds Rashmi. However, the target audience is women in particular. “Youngsters have their own ways and sense of fashion. They don’t like to wear saris or kurtis but only jeans and tops.

So it’s basically ladies that I cater to,” she says. Ask her about her future plans and she shares, “Having this boutique itself was a dream-come-true for me. But I would like to have a bigger one that I can call my own. People don’t get these kinds of clothes too easily in Bangalore and I just want to make it available to them at affordable rates.”

The boutique is located on 8/1, 5th Main, Jayamahal Extension.
