The students of the department of MCA of Kristu Jayanti College have been bagging the top slot at almost all the inter-college fests across the City.

The students competed in various academic and non-academic domains, such as IT manager, coding, IT quiz, web designing, product launch, application development, paper presentation, toggle and jam just to mention a few. They won the overall and the runners-up trophies for the 12th consecutive time.

Among the college fests that they participated in were Christ University, PESIT and CMRIT from Bangalore.

Outside the City, they participated in fests of St Joseph’s Engineering College in Mangalore and Ethiraj College in Chennai and Marian College in Kerala just to mention a few.

Preparing the students for each of the fests are the faculty and the head of department of MCA, who incorporate a lot of extra information that is out of the curriculum. “The department of MCA takes care to make the students focus not only on their academics but makes special efforts to develop the students’ intellect, personality and sharpen their management skills, through various co-curricular activities,” explains Fr Augustine George, head of the computer science and international studies.

The students who were a part of the winning team confess that it was indeed quite challenging to crack some of the competitions but it taught them a great deal about team work and ignited their competitive spirit. Soma Kumar, one of the participants says, “Participating in fests is not easy. Coding was tough but I had to stick to the basics and concentrate on easy solutions than to think of difficult and complex solutions. Fests help us think at a different level and provide a better perspective of problem solving through coding.”

Aswin Narayanan, another participant, feels fests are certainly thrilling. “Events like IT manager not only tested the participants’ academic knowledge but their physical strength as well. The management has been extremely supportive.”

Alex Rajan, a student, thinks fests trigger an out-of-the-box thinking. “I participate in the quiz. So I keep myself updated throughout the year through regular reading and discussions with friends. As the team leader, I always strive to boost the team spirit.”
