Following a makeshift temple for Congress President Sonia Gandhi in Karimnagar, a permanent shrine for the UPA chairperson is being planned in Mahbubnagar for her efforts to create the Telangana state.

Foundation stone for the temple, to be built by a former minister and an MLA from Secunderabad Cantonment Shankar Rao, was laid on Sonia Gandhi’s birthday on Monday, in Nandigaon village under Kottur mandal in Mahbubnagar.

The bronze idol along with the pedestal will be nine feet high and will be visible from the Hyderabad-Kurnool highway abutting the nine acre farm of Shankar Rao.

Rao, while speaking on the stone laying ceremony, said the temple for Sonia Gandhi was for her efforts to create Telangana. “We have decided to build the temple in the name of Mahakshetram and Sonia Gandhi Shantivanam, he said.
