Work on key infra projects to begin soon

Last Updated 16 December 2013, 19:14 IST

The work on two important infrastructure projects—eight-lane corridor at Okalipuram and a grade separator near Devegowda Petrol Bunk will commence soon.

Senior officials of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) said that work on Okalipuram eight-lane corridor would start within a month while the grade separator near Devegowda Petrol Bunk may start in a week's time.

The Rs 110-crore Okalipuram project was delayed due to land acquisition and as a result the cost has shot up by another Rs 70 crore. For this project, the BBMP needed Railway land while the Railways wanted  Binny Mill land near Seshadripuram.

“After giving Binny Mill land we are still required to pay Rs 70 crore for acquiring their huge land at Okalipuram due to which the project cost escalated. The exchange of land and the Railway land acquisition needs to be notified in the Gazette. The whole process may take one more month,” a senior BBMP official added.

Regarding the Rs 53-crore  grade separator project at Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle near Devegowda Petrol Pump, the sources said work order will be issued on Tuesday followed by the commencement of work the very next day.

The only challenge before the BBMP is the acquisition of four properties for which it is persuading the property owners to accept the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) instead of monetary compensation.
