Last Updated 21 December 2013, 08:47 IST

Endrendrum Punnagai
Tamil (U/A)Cast: Jiiva, Trisha Krishnan, Vinay Rai, Santhanam,  Andrea Jeremiah, Nassar
Director: I Ahmed

After a four-year hiatus, director Ahmed is back testing his box-office prospects again. This time, he whips up heady mix of romance, comedy, fun and frolic, laced with mirthful moments to tickle audiences’ funnybones. For that he has Gautam, Shri and Baby, bosom buddies, who swear by bachelorhood, lest it fracture their friendship. For these childhood trio, matrimony is strict no-no.

Further, Gautam being a misogynist believes there is no such thing as love. Such is our beau’s mulish disposition that he hasn’t spoken to his dad since the pater’s second marriage. Well, boys will be boys. Young and vulnerable. With pretty damsels around, can cupid eternally keep its arrow in quiver. No way. With Sonia signed up for an ad film by adman Sunny who offers the threesome the task, things begin to happen. Also testing their resolve is Priya, another staffer. Sonia falls for professional Gautam. But the man makes his mind known. All seems well until things fall part among thick-as- thieves friends. What led to fissure in their friendship? Does Gautam reason and relent? Endrendrum Punnagai’s provides all answers to posers.

Endrendrum Punnagai is no great shakes as ensemble entertainer. It does have its moments. With comedy as pivot, Endrendrum Punnagai tries to tease out a few chuckles. Beginning on a breezy note, it peters out into a languid tale in the latter half.  With a plot as predictable as chicory coffee, especially after friction among friendsEndrendrum Punnagai does not turn out everlasting happiness as its title suggests. It’s your call.
