Though he was born and brought up in Kanpur, his Hindi heartland dialect carries a hint of Mumbayiya style now.

Rehashing Salman Khan’s famous one liner, “Ek baar jo maine commitment kardi toh mai apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta,” Abhishek Awasthi calls himself Salman’s biggest fan. Taking pride in his new avatar as television’s own Dabangg star in Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai...Ajab Sa Risk Hai on Life OK, he speaks to Metrolife sharing his journey from being a dancer to an actor, dwelling upon his new role, while also hinting at his not-so-famous past affair with Rakhi Sawant.

“I always wanted to play the role of a cop. During my entry in Kaisa Yeh Ishq Hai.. I came all kitted out in a well-fitted cop uniform, speaking Haryanvi fluently. Totally dabangg style. Bas ek muchhein hi nahi hai (Only a moustache is missing),” says the actor describing his role in the new sitcom.

“This role truly reflects my personality in real life too. I am as flirtatious and filmy as I am in this role,” he says. And what about his grooves that he was formerly known for? “You will get to see glimpses of my dancing skills as my character goes into dream sequences where I get to dance as well,” says Abhishek.

Recalling his first brush with the world of glamour, he says, “I made my first dancing appearance way back in 2001. While people remember me for India’s Best Cinestars ki Khoj and Nach Baliye, not many know that I had won Men’s freestyle Boogie Woogie championship long ago in 2001.” Since he has been away from the reality show scene, Metrolife asked him if there’s a reality show that he would want to do next, “It would be Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, that’s one show I would really want to be a part of,” the actor admits candidly.

Unlike recent media reports that quote him calling Rakhi Sawant his ‘shameful past’, Abhishek doesn’t ignore questions about Rakhi, saying, “It’s been more than five years since our break-up. Why does everybody still want to talk about it and take away all my credit, my identity and my talent in achieving what I am,” he asks? And what about the new love in his life?  “I am in a steady relationship with Kalpana. She’s based in Maharashtra and owns an event management company. If things go right, we will get married in the next winter in Kanpur, my
hometown,” confesses the actor.
