The plant would reopen with initial production of 40 tonnes per day of OTR tyres with 1,039 workers, company officials said here. The company would not induct the 25 workers suspended during the closure period and this was conveyed by the management on November 13 at a meeting at the state secretariat, they added.

The Shahgunj plant remained suspended since November 30 last year after a section of the workers refused management's proposal for a temporary shut down of the plant. The plant reopened on March 6 and started routine maintenance with 229 workers.

However, production could not resume immediately as the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co refused to restore power supply due to difference of opinion over terms. The power supply was finally restored on November 9 after the company issued bank guarantee of Rs 1.61 crore to power utility and agreed to abide by its terms. The Ambattur plant of the company has started production since 19 October.
