Karnataka women suffered a tame loss at the hands of Tamil Nadu, going down 17-25, 8-25, 17-25 in the ninth South Zone Youth National volleyball championships at the Shankar Mutt grounds on Friday.

Karnataka now face a must win match against Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Tamil Nadu completely dominated their match against Karnataka with Aishwarya and captain Monisha being the star performers. In the first set, Tamil Nadu led 10-7 before closing it out 25-17.

Karnataka skipper Varishta was the only player to make an impact for the home side as she produced some fine smashes to keep the team in the hunt but ended up waging a lone battle.

Tamil Nadu were relentless in the attack as they capped off the second set at 25-8.  Karnataka did put up some fight in the third but it was too late as Tamil Nadu galloped home.

Later in the day, Karnataka men beat Puducherry 25-27, 25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 21-19 to claim the third place in the championship.

Results: Women: Karnataka lt to TN 17-25, 8-25, 17-25; AP bt Puducherry 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-13.
