He was speaking at a press conference after a progress review meeting with taluk-level officials at the taluk panchayat office.

He said that the road repair works will be conducted in accordance to the high court order which directed that all the main roads in the city should be widened to 100 feet. “The court has already made its stand clear about the city’s roads and everybody should abide by it,” he said.

While maintaining that there should be no room for politics when developmental works are undertaken, he said, “Unfortunately, there has been a lot of politics over the widening of roads.”

He remarked that if the elected representatives had paid heed to the words of the people in the past, the issue would not have reached the court. He informed that in the past about Rs 1.4 crore had been spent for maintaining the state of the roads.
