Jazz up your footwear, step out in style

Last Updated 02 January 2014, 14:16 IST

The dipping temperatures seem to have in no way sunk the  enthusiasm of Delhiites who are cocking a snook at the biting cold and stepping out in style.

Indeed, fashion does not seem to have taken a backseat, even though we are sheathed in layers of clothing to stave off the chilly winds. So keeping the layered look alive and kicking, girls be ready to strut out in style. As you dig out your winter boots this season, we bring you ways to make them look even more chic. There is nothing that a little innovation and some imaginative thinking will not achieve. For starters try jazzing up your pair of boots with leg warmers and boot cuffs!

Boot cuffs are those small knitted and cozy layer of warmers that fit right above your boots.  Best of all, they do not scrunch up under your boots like socks or warmers. So, you can pair up these little accessories, giving a dash of glamour to your everyday shoes. This smart cuff over the shoes can be laced, buttoned-up or styled as per
your choice.

“Well usually, boot cuffs and leg warmers are hard to find, but this winter they are definitely available in a lot of stores. Forever 21 and  Zara both have some really cute basic ones, but even the side stalls at GK-1 M-Block market sell really adorable, candy striped ones that make a statement,” says Mehak Shahani, a Delhi-based personal shopper from peachesandblush.com.

Even if you can't get your hands on some snazzy and affordable cuffs in the market, you could always bribe your mother into knitting a pair for you! There are umpteen number of patterns available for free, online. Lured by their cuteness quotient you might as well try your hands on a crochet cuff yourself!

If you are too lazy too do that, there are some very trendy leg warmers available in the market. For a comfy look, wear a slouchy loose-weave pair over ballerinas
or heels and walk out with boho panache.

Sharing a styling tip, Mehak tells us, “A really great winter outfit is just a simple, oversized tan sweater, black tights, and funky leg warmers worn over your closed shoes or boots.”

Unless you want your warmers to be the focal point of your attire, try and stick
to only neutral colours.

Else go all the way to make heads turn!
