The Kundgol police on Thursday took into custody two of the three suspects in connection with the rape of a girl from Budarsingi village in Hubli taluk.

Superintendent of Police Lokesh Kumar told Deccan Herald that the police had registered a case based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father that three persons had abducted his daughter and had taken her to Nalogal in Haveri district, before assaulting her sexually.

A detailed investigation has been ordered into the case. The girl was admitted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences for medical examination on Wednesday night. The suspects will be arrested after getting the medical report, he said.

The Haveri police should have immediately registered a complaint when the victim’s parents approached them and later transferred the case to Dharwad, Kumar said. Even the Kundgol police should not have made the victim’s parents run from pillar to post to register a complaint. This would have prevented the parents from visiting the SP’s office, Kumar said.

In the meantime, the victim’s uncle has alleged that an influential MLA from Dharwad district had sent his representative to her house for a compromise and had demanded that her family withdraw the case. He even lured the family members with money.

However, the MLA has denied this allegation, stating that he had nothing to do with the incident.
