Minister to discuss with DC on declaring holidays for schools

District-in-Charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa has said that he will discuss with the Deputy Commissioner, on declaring holidays for schools and colleges, for three days during 80th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana.

Speaking at a meeting on preparation for the convention on Saturday, he said the final decision on declaring holidays for schoolchildren will be taken by the DC. The government has already released Rs two crore for the sammelana. All efforts have been made to ensure that there was no paucity of funds.

MLC M C Nanaiah said that by keeping aside differences of opinion, we should unitedly work for the success of the sammelana.  

MP H Vishwanath said “demand for not to allow writer Ko Chennabasappa to enter the district is an insult. The issue should be solved amicably.” 

A handbook ‘Kodagu Bedagu’ was released on the occasion. The minister said that preparations for the sammelana is nearing completion. Earlier, he visited Field Marshal K M Cariappa College maidan, book stall, media centre, police parade ground and looked into the arrangements. 

“It is a pride moment for every citizen in Kodagu, to host the literary meet. The meet is not restricted to a few persons. It is the festival of the state. All should strive for the conservation of land and language.” 

The name plate in all the hotels, commercial establishments should be in Kannada. Convener T P Ramesh, MLAs M P Appachu Ranjan, Bopaiah, SP M N Anucheth, Additional DC H Prasanna among others were present.
