The relatives of three-year-old Mariyam Kousar, who suffered brain damage due to alleged anaesthesia overdose at the State-run Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic Hospital, staged a protest in front of  the Town Hall on Thursday demanding that the findings of the committee that probed the charges of medical negligence be made public.

About 200 people who had gathered near the Town Hall alleged that the four doctors who were allegedly responsible for the child's medical condition must be suspended. “Not only the doctors but also the health minister must resign as he has been ineffective in dealing with this,” Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, a relative of the child, said and added that there was a delay in revealing the findings despite the deadline for probe being over.

“There is pressure from Malathi Manipal Hospital, where the child is now being treated, to pay the bills and the family's financial condition is not sound. We demand the State to bear the expenses as it is the fault of doctors at the State-run hospital which worsened Kousar’s condition,” he added.

Mudassir Pasha said the protest was not just to seek justice to his daughter but also the other five victims of anaesthesia overdose in 2013.
