Sand lorry stir to continue; maxi cabs back

Last Updated 13 January 2014, 20:27 IST

A strike by various commercial vehicle operators’ associations in the City was called off on Monday following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s intervention.

However, the strike by sand lorry owners and vehicles carrying construction materials will continue until their demand for an increase in the number of daily permits is accepted.

“The meeting lasted over three and a half hours and the government has sought a week’s time to look into our demand of an increased number of daily permits for trucks loaded with sand. Until this issue is addressed, our strike will continue. However, the strike by other unions has been called off,” said G R Shanmugappa, president of the Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners and Agents Association.

Meanwhile, the strike by various unions including the Maxi Cabs Association, which ferries thousands of employees to the BPOs, MNCs and other IT companies, got a dull response, with most maxi cabs operating as usual.
