The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has registered a case against JW Marriott Hotel on Vittal Mallya Road for encroaching on a stormwater drain.

The case was registered based on a complaint by B V Shetty, Secretary, Transparency International India, who alleged that the hotel, apart from constructing a RCC box-type drain and a compound  wall,  had also converted a portion of the encroached land into a parking lot.

The case has been registered against the hotel owner, Deepak Raheja, general manager Parul Thakur, officials of the BBMP’s stormwater drain division and a few others under Sections 192 (a), 192 (b) of Karnataka Land Revenue Act, sections 436 (a), 321 (b) of Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act and 120 (b), 409, 217 read with 34 of the IPC. The complainant alleged that despite several representation and reminders to the Palike, authorities took no action against the hotel management.
