Sri Kaniyur mutt seer Sri Vidyawallabhatheertha Swamiji ascended the sacred “Paryaya Sarvajna Peeta” at the Mangala Muhurtham of 5.50 am amidst the chanting of the religious hymns “Mangalaastaka” and “Dwadasha Sthotra” here at Sri Krishna mutt on Saturday.

The Kaniyur seer took over the reins of temple administration from the outgoing Sode Vadiraja mutt seer Sri Vishwavallabhatheertha Swamiji. The Kaniyur mutt seer ascended the throne of “Paryaya Sarvajna Peeta” to run the administration of Sri Krishna temple and conduct “Sri Krishna Pooja” for next two years. The religious hymns that were recited on the occasion of transfer of power were written by great saint and ”Dwaitha” philosopher Sri Madhwacharya.

The incoming seer arrived at the entrance of the temple in a grand and colorful procession along with the seers of “Asta mutts” except the outgoing seer of Sode Vadiraj mutt, Admaru mutt seer Sri Vishwapriyatheertha Swamiji and Puttige seer Sri Sugunendratheertha Swamiji in the wee hours.  The Kaniyur seer was received by the outgoing seer of Sode Vadiraja seer who was waiting at the temple entrance after performing “Visarjana Pooja,” during the early hours. Visarjan Pooja is the last ritual that is performed by the Sode Vadiraja seer before he hands over the charges of the temple administration.

The Kaniyur seer had the Darshan of Lord Krishna through “Navagraha Kindi” inside the sanctorum and offered prayers. The Kaniyur seer later performed the ritual wherein he received the temple keys and age old “Akshaya Patra,” perennial bowl and spoon from Sode seer in front of the statue of Saint Sri Madhwacharya to mark the transfer of administrative charges of the temple. Peetarohana ritual was performed inside the temple in which Sode seer offered the sacred seat of “Paryaya Peeta” from where he solemnized the entire power transition process for two-year term.Following the transition of power, all seers proceeded to Badagu Malige to take part in the informal Durbar. All the present seers exchanged garlands and Chandana paste and later proceeded to Rajangana for the formal Durbar ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, the Kaniyur mutt seer said that the society is in need of sacrifice and also selfless culture to promote brotherhood and peace. Life brings in the meaning of saintly livelihood only when one sacrifices his life for the welfare of others. He said he would give utmost priority to the development programmes that benefits the devotees.

The outgoing seer of Sode Vadiraja mutt, Sri Vishwavallabhatheertha Swamiji, said he feels relaxed by handing over the charges of the temple administration. He added that the life should be imbibed with both happiness and misery to get the real pinch of peace. He added that the transition of power in Sri Krishna temple takes place with discipline, sacrifice unlike in political arena, wherein the transfer of power symbolizes greediness and corruption.

Pejawar mutt seer Sri Vishweshatheertha Swamiji said there should be no egoistic feeling in the process of approaching the Lord. The sacred text ‘Bhagvadgeetha’ narrates the repercussions for committing atrocities against women, environment and human beings.
Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake said Paryaya is nothing but Dasara of Udupi. He said the concept of mid-day meal introduced by the temple was later adopted and materialised by the government to the entire state. Currently, 10 crore children are offered mid-day meals in the country.  He said that a proposal to develop temple town is chalked out at the cost of Rs 80 crore. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced Rs six crore, that is, Rs 3 crore each in two installments for Paryaya and also for the development of the city, he said.
