Vinay Pathak’s quirky sense of humour has always tickled the funny bone of audiences across all age groups.

The actor’s comic timing is enviable and he says that it is theatre which has made him what he is today.

The actor, who was here to perform at Ranga Shankara, says, “I have lost count of the number of times that I have come to Bangalore, whether it is to promote my films or to perform. Bangalore is like a second home for me. It has been a long association with Bangalore and it is fantastic to perform here owing to the wonderful audience,” he says.

He has a long list of performances to his credit. But he says that he has no favourites and only does what he likes.

“I enjoy performing in plays and all the plays that I have done are very close to my heart. My initial training has been in theatre and I have learnt a lot from it. However, I like performing in other mediums also,” he says.

He has a lot to say about the budding theatre scene in Bangalore and feels that the City has an audience not just for English theatre, but also for Hindi and regional theatre.

“It is very heartening to see that the people here enjoy theatre in different languages. If you compare this to other cities in the country, the response here is amazing. A Hindi play in any other part of South India might be unheard of but not in Bangalore.

Such is the diversity of this city. It’s a melting pot of cultures and talents,” he says.
The actor says it is by the virtue of theatre that he gets talked about and he is all set to be a part of interesting ventures.

His performances in Das Vidaniya, Khosla Ka Ghosla etc had made him quite a household name.

The actor does not want to bracket himself in the comic genre but wants to do different kind of films. “I want to explore other opportunities and I am already doing some very interesting roles,” he says.

He has a lot to look forward to as of now, “Two of my films will be on floors very soon. One of them is Gaur Bhari Dastan, which is a very interesting film and is the biopic of a freedom fighter. The other one is Chalo Dilli- Part 2. I am quite excited about both the films,” he wraps up.
